Preterism a manger

This post is a joyful journey through the crazy world of the preterist. Let's start munching our way through this nonsense.

..................................

1.

Mat 16:28  Truly I say to you, that there are some of those standing here who will never experience death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
Mar 9:1  And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power."

Above are texts that your average preterist will quote to prove that it all happened back there in A.D 70.

However,  look at this:-

One of those 'standing here' would have most likely been the apostle John.
John recorded the revelation that was given to Jesus Christ by the Father.
So, before John's physical tent (his earthly body) was destroyed, he saw 'the Son of Man coming in his kingdom'.

Consider this also.
John 8:51:-
Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.”

That kind of nails it, really. The apostles physical bodies came to an end but they themselves did not experience death.

2Co 5:1  For we know that if our earthly house, the tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made by hands, eternal in the heavens.
2Co 5:2  For indeed, in this house we groan, because we desire to put on our dwelling from heaven,
2Co 5:3  if indeed, even after we have taken it off, we will not be found naked.
2Co 5:4  For indeed we who are in this tent groan, being burdened [for this reason, that] we do not want to be unclothed, but to be clothed, in order that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
2Co 5:5  Now the one who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the down payment, the Spirit.

If we have the spirit of the Lord living in us, our future is secured:-
"who has given us the down payment, the Spirit."
and we shall not experience death before we see "the Son of Man coming in his kingdom".

Again:-
Joh 11:25  Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,
Joh 11:26  and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?

That is what the Word of the Lord states. I'm not going to argue with that. Why would I?

..............................

2.

Next up:-

Act 1:6  So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"
Act 1:7  He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.
Act 1:8  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Act 1:9  And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
Act 1:10  And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes,
Act 1:11  and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven."

So, er, did anyone actually see the Lord return in A.D 70. Sorry, didn't quite catch that. Oh... it was a spiritual return, oh I see.....hohoho.

.....................................

3.

Dan 8:17  So he came near where I stood. And when he came, I was frightened and fell on my face. But he said to me, "Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end."

Dan 12:9  He said, "Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end.
Dan 12:10  Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand.
Dan 12:11  And from the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days.
Dan 12:12  Blessed is he who waits and arrives at the 1,335 days.

Just so happens I have discovered the link between the 1335 days and the 2300 evenings and mornings of Daniel chapter 8 ( see 2300 ) as we approach the end of the age. It has just come to light and has never been recognized until the 2300 post was published. It was certainly not known in A.D 70.

2300

This is just a post where I am going to experimentally try to find some more depth to the 2300 evenings and mornings in Daniel chapter 8.

Dan 8:13  Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to the one who spoke, "For how long is the vision concerning the regular burnt offering, the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and host to be trampled underfoot?"
Dan 8:14  And he said to me, "For 2,300 evenings and mornings. Then the sanctuary shall be restored to its rightful state."
Dan 12:11  And from the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days.
Dan 12:12  Blessed is he who waits and arrives at the 1,335 days.

Now there is a connection here that involves 37, actually 370.
Here it is:-

1335 * 2 = 2670

2670 - 2300 = 370

(1335 days could be interpreted as 2670 evenings and mornings.)

Let's have a look at 370, then.

1. Noah was in the Ark for ... 370 days

2. The digit grouping for the second half of the second verse of Genesis :-
Gen 1:2  The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

Total letter gematria:- 1369
Factors for 1369:- 1(star 1), 37(star 3), 1369
Digit grouping for 1369:- 370. Digit grouping result factors:- 1(star 1), 2, 5, 10, 37(star 3), 74, 185, 370
(See Note 1, below, for full data)
The idea of a new creation out of the chaos of the first part of verse 2 comes into view.

We are starting to see that this 370 evenings and mornings time period is connected with the transition to the"age to come". It is the number symbolism that is shining through.

Just how 1290 days fits into this I am not yet sure. Oh well. There is something here, though.

3. The gematria of "Christ" in the greek is 1480.
1480 = 370 * 4
4 is a number connected with the earth, the four winds, etc. which is mentioned three times in Daniel and, in Daniel, these four winds are all connected with a  change of earthly kingdoms. This time the change will be for the coming Kingdom of God and of His Christ. That will definitely be a change for the better!

Dan 7:2, Daniel declared,1 “I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea.
Dan 8:8, Then the goat became exceedingly great, but when he was strong, the great horn was broken, and instead of it there came up four conspicuous horns toward the four winds of heaven.
Dan 11:4, And as soon as he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken and divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not to his posterity, nor according to the authority with which he ruled, for his kingdom shall be plucked up and go to others besides these.

Might I suggest the reader has a look at this web page:-

and scrolls down to the ""In the beginning" - Jesus" section a little over a third of the page down.

Other 370's:-

1. It is the gematria of the new name given to Mishael in Daniel chapter 1:7:-
Dan 1:7  And the chief of the eunuchs gave them names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.

3. Daniel 11:4
370 is the gematria of to rule. Look at the passage, it is a direct reference to what Alexander the great had ruled.

Daniel 8:8 confirms this to be Alexander the great - the "four winds of heaven" in both verses is the give-away:-
Dan 8:8  Then the goat became exceedingly great, but when he was strong, the great horn was broken, and instead of it there came up four conspicuous horns toward the four winds of heaven.
Also:-
Dan 8:21  And the goat is the king of Greece. And the great horn between his eyes is the first king.

1260,1290,1335 and 888 continued

1260,1290,1335 and 888

I have been thinking about this for sometime now, just pondering it all (see previous post).

Let's have a look at this verse from Isaiah 53, ESV translation:-

Isa 53:11  Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.

Keil & delitsch render it thus in their commentary:-

"Because of the travail of His soul, He will see, and be refreshed; through His knowledge will He procure justice, my righteous servant, for the many, and will take their iniquities upon Himself."

Both these translations capture the idea that it is by the Lord's knowledge that He procures justice for the many, "make many to be accounted righteous". It is "by His knowledge".

The numbers 1260, 1290 and 1335 have to do, I surmise, with the very nature of Jesus Himself, His knowledge.
Let us not forget, either, that he has a new name, too.
Rev 3:12  The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.
So do these:-
Rev 2:17  He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.'
For the present, though, we are looking at the name of JESUS, so let us press on to see what this name contains in relation to our three numbers.

..........................

1260

Rev 12:5  She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, Rev 12:6  and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.
Rev 12:14  But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time.
Rev 11:3  And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth."
Rev 11:2  but do not measure the court outside the temple; leave that out, for it is given over to the nations, and they will trample the holy city for forty-two months.
Rev 13:5  And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months.
Rev 13:6  It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven.
Dan 7:25  He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.

It is common to lump 1260 together with the 42 months BUT 42 months (and time, and times, and half a time for that matter) are NOT a part of the name of JESUS (as far as I know).
What I read, so far, is this:-

1.   Days for the Church

2.   Months for the beast

3.   Time, times and half a time when the woman/saints and earthly powers/beast are mentioned together. For example, in Daniel:-
Dan 7:25  He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.
Again we see  this in the Revelation:-
Rev 12:14  But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time.
It's the same woman as in Revelation 12:5 (I think, anyway) except that she is now mentioned in connection with an earthly kingdom (the two wings of the great eagle) and subsequently the time parameter is defined in terms of "a time, and times, and half a time."

When the scripture is dealing solely with the beast, the time parameter changes again to "months":-
Rev 13:5  And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months.
Now that, to my mind, is one of the keys to really going forward in this area of scripture study.

I will be adding more on these numbers to this post and/or future posts as more light dawns.

See
http://alphaomega37.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/2300.html
for some thoughts on 1335 and that other mysterious number, 2300.

...................................................................................................................................................
As I have mentioned elsewhere, there is no actual mention of 1260 days in the book of Daniel. Equally, there is no mention of 1290 or 1335 days in the revelation. Yet the name of JESUS combines all three, 1260 in the Revelation and 1290 and 1335 in Daniel.

1260 1290 1335 and 888

something new here

1260 1290 1335

digit group these numbers:-

1 + 260  +  1 + 290   + 1 + 335 = 888

888 is the gematria of "JESUS"

That was good, but....

There is more

as my blog shows

http://alphaomega37.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/126012901335.html

1260 1290 1335
1260 + 1290 + 1335 = 3885

and 3 + 885 = 888

Factors for 3885:- 1(star 1), 3, 5, 7, 15, 21, 35, 37(star 3), 105, 111, 185, 259, 555, 777, 1295, 3885
Digit group for 3885 = 3 + 885 = 888.
Digit group result factors:- 1(star 1), 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 37(star 3), 74, 111, 148, 222, 296, 444, 888

37 , 888, oh my!!!

.......................

Update here 5 April 2014:-

I have noticed that seemingly any number that possesses 4 digits has this double property in it's digit grouping. Here is an example:-

7777

7777 + 7777 + 7777 = 23331  = 23 + 331 = 354

Digit group first:-

7777 = 7 + 777 = 784
784 + 784 + 784 = 2352 = 2 + 352 = 354

Let's try again:-

1111, 2222  and 3333

1111 + 2222 + 3333 = 6666 = 6 + 666 = 672

Digit group first:-

1111 = 1 + 111 = 112
2222 = 2 + 222 = 224
3333 = 3 + 333 = 336

112 + 224 + 336 = 672

Whether this is a well known mathematical fact, I don't know.
To my mind, really does lend more credence to the simple idea of digit grouping numbers.

The fact that 1260, 1290 and 1335 result in 888 via both methods (ie; digit group the sum Or digit group then sum) is therefore inevitable once one of the digit grouping methods is processed.

This does not detract from these divinely given numbers. Indeed, the post on 2300 shows that 1335 has significance when connected to 2300.

.......................

Let's stay calm.

2Pe 3:8  But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Here we have  the 1 is as a 1000 and 1000 is as a 1 statement. Peter states it in reference to the day of judgement.
I have employed this digit grouping throughout this blog and it definitely appears to be a real phenomena within the scriptures and the method is very similar to what peter is stating.
In the above two examples, the 1000 of 1260, for example, becomes a 1  and thus 1260 becomes 1 + 260 = 261

What this is unequivocally telling us is that these mysterious numbers, 1260, 1290 and 1335, refer unambiguously to JESUS, the gematria of JESUS being 888.

G2424
Ἰησοῦς
Iēsous
ee-ay-sooce'
Of Hebrew origin [H3091]; Jesus (that is, Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites: - Jesus.

Ἰ(10) η(8) σ(200) ο(70) ῦ(400) ς (200)

(Total = 888. Factors:- 1(star 1), 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 37(star 3), 74, 111, 148, 222, 296, 444, 888)

[Note:- the first six occurrences of JESUS in Matthew are, in the text, spelt   "ιησου" ie; without the sigma, "ς" (200)Come the seventh spelling and it is "Ἰησοῦς". In the New Testament, "ιησου" (688) occurs 339 times, "ιησουν" (738) occurs 131 times and "Ἰησοῦς" (888) occurs 503 times. There appears to be a few other occurrences as well but this may be down to different greek versions, etc, or possibly other spellings, not going down that road today. The full spelling of our Lord's name is given in Strongs, BDB and KJ Concordance as "Ἰησοῦς", (888).]

So what I propose is this, for the moment, rather than trying to fit these days to Daniel's 70th week ( and I am not saying that is not a worthwhile endeavour ) which has been done time and again, I am just leaving these numbers in their connection to the name of JESUS.

What do these numbers mean? I am pondering these things in the next post:-

Daniel atbashed

Here is the atbashed gematria for the first hebrew section of Daniel.
(Dan 1:1 up  to and including the word syriac/aramaic in Daniel 2:4. Atbash replaces the first letter with the last, second letter with second to last, etc).

Total Letter occurrances:- נ = 5. ד = 9. ע = 11. ר = 11. ה = 16. ח = 19. ו = 22. ס = 24. ז = 37. ק = 52. ש = 59. א = 65. ב = 69. ל = 70. ט = 81. ג = 86. ת = 101. צ = 111. פ = 129. כ = 143. י = 183. מ = 189.

Total Letter count:- 1492

........................

Now this is interesting.
ז Zayin, the seventh letter with value 7, occurs 37 times.

ע   ayin, the sixteenth letter, has a value of 70 and occurs 11 times
ר resh, the twentieth letter, has a value of 200 and occurs 11 times

Well, we kind of expected that with ayin and resh, we have seen these letter occurrences in other posts and we are only swapping the letters around atbash style.

However, the zayin is noteworthy.

......................

Ok. lets do the same for Daniel chapters 8 to 12.

Total Letter occurrances:- נ = 27. ח = 34. ע = 77. ר = 77. ד = 108. ו = 123. ה = 132. ס = 200. ל = 272. ק =  300. ב = 369. ז = 382. א = 385. ט = 426. ג = 441. ש = 467. ת = 566. צ = 570. כ = 622. י = 663. מ = 908. פ = 978.

........................
As expected:-

ע   ayin, the sixteenth letter, has a value of 70 and occurs 77 times
ר resh, the twentieth letter, has a value of 200 and occurs 77 times

........................

So, I know, let's do both hebrew sections combined.
(Dan 1:1 up  to and including the word syriac/aramaic in Daniel 2:4 and Daniel chapters 8 to 12).

Total Letter occurrances:- נ = 32. ח = 53. ע = 88. ר = 88. ד = 117. ו = 145. ה = 148. ס = 224. ל = 342. ק = 352. ז = 419. ב = 438. א = 450. ט = 507. ש = 526. ג = 527. ת = 667. צ = 681. כ = 765. י = 846. מ = 1097. פ = 1107.

ע ayin, the sixteenth letter, has a value of 70 and now occurs 88 times
ר resh, the twentieth letter, has a value of 200 and occurs 88 times

Again, we expected that, we have seen these letter occurrences in other posts and we are only swapping the letters around atbash style.

Babylon (to be or not to be) and the beast

Babylon (to be or not to be) and the beast

here is a common statement:-
"Daniel 2, 7, and 8 all depict the same succession of empires starting with Babylon, then Media-Persia, then Greece, then Rome "

I notice though that daniel chapter 7 verses 11-12 says

11 “I looked then because of the sound of the great words that the horn was speaking. And as I looked, the beast was killed, and its body destroyed and given over to be burned with fire. 12 As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.

However, here we see that the lives of the three beasts were prolonged AFTER the fourth beast is killed, burnt up, etc.

Now when belshazzar lost it in babylon, that was the end of babylon. OK, we see iran and greece today, but NOT Babylon, there is nothing left of it in any shape or form that I know of.

Therefore the first beast of Daniel 7 cannot be Babylon, at least not according to Daniel chapter 7.

Is there a simple answer? I think so.

Rev 17:8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to rise from the bottomless pit and go to destruction. And the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel to see the beast, because it was and is not and is to come.

The composite beast of revelation that echoes Daniel 7 will make the earth dwellers "marvel to see the beast".

You see, this latter day beast WAS!!!, currently is NOT (as far as I am aware) and yet is about to rise from the bottomless pit.

Daniel 7 is talking about this latter day beast that is due to rise from the bottomless pit. This beast is made up of the components of the statue of Daniel chapter 2.

aaah, it's sooo simple.
You gotta smile :)

Not sure. Look again:-

Rev 17:11 As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction.
Destruction. Mmm, this is the key to it all

23 “Thus he said: ‘As for the fourth beast, there shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all the kingdoms, and it shall devour the whole earth, and trample it down, and break it to pieces.  24 As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings shall arise, and another shall arise after them;he shall be different from the former ones, and shall put down three kings.  25  He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law;and they shall be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.  26  But the court shall sit in judgment, and his dominion shall be taken away,to be consumed and destroyed to the end.  27  And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; his kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.’
It is the fourth beast only in Daniel 7 that gets the full destruction treatment. Thus it is the beast that is an eighth in Rev 17 that is the fourth beast of Daniel 7.

Look - the other 3 beasts remain for a bit after the fourth is destroyed and this is why:-
And the kingdom and the dominionand the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heavenshall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High.
What remains after the fourth beast is destroyed is given to the saints. Light dawns, does it not?

Let us also note that when the fourth beast arises, it is the time of the end:-

Dan 7:24 As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings shall arise, and another shall arise after them;he shall be different from the former ones, and shall put down three kings.
Rev 17:12, And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast.
At this stage, I am not going to try to identify the first 3 beasts. They may or may not already be existing. All I shall say is this:-
23 “Thus he said: ‘As for the fourth beast, there shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all the kingdoms, and it shall devour the whole earth, and trample it down, and break it to pieces.
The fourth beast, at the time of the end, is different.

Daniel 2 & 7

This is going to be an ongoing exploration of the finer points of Daniel chapter's 2 and 7

Clay

forasmuch asH3606 H6903 thou sawestH2370 H8754 the ironH6523 mixedH6151 H8743 with miryH2917 clayH2635.

H6151
ערב
‛ărab
ar-ab'
(Chaldee); corresponding to H6148; to commingle: - mingle (self), mix.

There are those who say that the 'clay' represents the religious part of the holy roman empire.

let us examine this

The word for "mixed" in daniel is actually "arab" and it is the arabs (the clay) and the remains of the roman empire, the iron (the crusaders) who have controlled the temple mount ever since A.D 70
The actual people who destroyed the temple were not romans but syrian and arabian conscripts -Titus tried to limit their destruction but to no avail. It is there in the history books. So, the prince who is to come will be of syrian/arab descent. However, it is worth noting that the etruscans ( the founders of italy, the Lateinos/666) themselves came from resen (now mosul).
Now, that makes a whole lot more sense.

The Last Adam - 1492

We have seen in other posts that Daniel is divided by it's Hebrew and Aramaic into three sections.
See http://alphaomega37.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/Letter-occurrences-for-Daniel.html for more on this and the gimel zytin, 3 and 7, letter occurrences.

..................................

Now, the first section, Daniel 1:1 to the word "syriack"/"aramaic" in 2:4. After this, from 'O king' onwards, the text is in aramaic to the end of chapter 7, then reverts to hebrew again from chapter 8 to the end of the book.

The total letter count is 1492 for Daniel 1:1 up to and including the word "syriack"/"aramaic" in 2:4.
Is is not just amazing that the scripture itself indicates the change to aramaic:-
ESV Dan 2:4  Then the Chaldeans said to the king in Aramaic, "O king, live forever!.
KJV Dan 2:4  Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever:
That is just so amazing, however, we are concerned here with 1492.
1492 is the gematria for the greek phrase "the last adam".

That sits rather well with the introductory section of Daniel where Daniel and his companions are described.

1492 is also 4 * the palindrome 373.
373 is the gematria of "λόγος", logos or the "Word" as in
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, , and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Now this is going deeper. We have 373, the logos/word. We have 4 *373 =1492. What of the 4?
Think about it, dear reader.

Yes, Daniel and his 3 companions are described in this opening hebrew section. 3 survived fire, one survived the lions' den. Four refined persons. I am sure you can see where this is going.

(Note:- 1492 is also the 'discovery' date of America but I am not sure about the significance of this. Others are more sure so you might be interested in a book called "Three religions, one temple mount" by Gary L Cobb which delves into the significance of America as related to scripture. I've only skimmed the surface of this book but it appears to be loaded with good content. You can read a good deal of it for free on google books but the whole book only appears to be available in hard copy and not that cheap, either. Really should be on Kindle.)

Daniel letter count - observations

We have seen in other posts that Daniel is divided by it's Hebrew and Aramaic into three sections.
See http://alphaomega37.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/Letter-occurrences-for-Daniel.html for more on this and the gimel zytin, 3 and 7, letter occurrences.

Lets look at the letter count for the last section here, Daniel chapters 8 through to 12;

The total letter count is 8,127 for Daniel chapters 8 -12 inclusive.

8,127 = 7,000 + ( 7 * 7 * 23 )
(Note that 7000 +7+7+23 = 7037)

..................

Now, the first section, Daniel 1:1 to the word syriac in 2:4. (After this, from 'O king' onwards, the text is in aramaic to the end of chapter 7.)

The total letter count is 1492 for Daniel 1:1 to the word syriac in 2:4.
1492 is the gematria for the greek phrase "the last adam".
That sits rather well with the introductory section of Daniel where Daniel and his companions are described.

America cropped up in the previous post (1776 gematria for Gen 1:4). Here she is again, 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

.................

Now the two sections combined:-
This is from Dan 1:1 to the word 'syriac' in Dan 2:4. (From 'O king', in Dan 2:4, up to the end of chapter 7, the text is aramaic).
The hebrew then continues from chapter 8 to 12 inclusive.

The total combined letter count is 9619, which is prime.(the 1187th prime number).
1187 is also the 195th prime number.

America founded in 1776. Makes you wonder.
Gen 1:4  And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness
There is a definite "light" that America has that separates it from other nations.

Somewhere on the web I noticed that the "light" in verse 4, second occurrence where it is separated, is also the 37th word of Genesis chapter 1. I'm not giving a link as the sites author seemed to have plagiarised every gematria phenomena he could get his hands on without giving an ounce of credit to anyone except in one instance. We are all in this together and the only one who gets any glory will be the Lord, we are just like little dwarves mining these gems, we didn't create them, but we should honour those who have taken the time and patience to go mining.

"and the spirit of God moved over the face of the waters".

Quickly or Suddenly

This post is going to build on the previous post. ( What things must needs with speed come to pass )

The title says it all really - Quickly or Suddenly?

Here is the word itself:-

G5035

ταχύ
tachu
takh-oo'
Neuter singular of G5036 (as adverb); shortly, that is, without delay, soon, or (by surprise) suddenly, or (by implication of ease) readily: - lightly, quickly.

Here are the seven occurrences in the revelation:-
Rev 2:5, RememberG3421 G5720 thereforeG3767 from whenceG4159 thou art fallenG1601 G5758, andG2532 repentG3340 G5657, andG2532 doG4160 G5657 the firstG4413 worksG2041; or elseG1490 I will comeG2064 G5736 unto theeG4671 quicklyG5035, andG2532 will removeG2795 G5692 thyG4675 candlestickG3087 out ofG1537 hisG846 placeG5117, exceptG3362 thou repentG3340 G5661.
    Rev 2:16, RepentG3340 G5657; or elseG1490 I will comeG2064 G5736 unto theeG4671 quicklyG5035, andG2532 will fightG4170 G5692 againstG3326 themG846 withG1722 the swordG4501 of myG3450 mouthG4750.
    Rev 3:11, BeholdG2400 G5628, I comeG2064 G5736 quicklyG5035: hold that fastG2902 G5720 whichG3739 thou hastG2192 G5719, thatG2443 no manG3367 takeG2983 G5632 thyG4675 crownG4735.
    Rev 11:14, The secondG1208 woeG3759 is pastG565 G5627; andG2532 , beholdG2400 G5628, the thirdG5154 woeG3759 comethG2064 G5736 quicklyG5035.
    Rev 22:7, BeholdG2400 G5628, I comeG2064 G5736 quicklyG5035: blessedG3107 is he that keepethG5083 G5723 the sayingsG3056 of the prophecyG4394 of thisG5127 bookG975.
    Rev 22:12, AndG2532, beholdG2400 G5628, I comeG2064 G5736 quicklyG5035; andG2532 myG3450 rewardG3408 is withG3326 meG1700, to giveG591 G5629 every manG1538 according asG5613 hisG846 workG2041 shall beG2071 G5704.
    Rev 22:20, He which testifiethG3140 G5723 these thingsG5023 saithG3004 G5719, SurelyG3483 I comeG2064 G5736 quicklyG5035. AmenG281. Even soG3483, comeG2064 G5736, LordG2962 JesusG2424.

It seems to me that Rev 22:7, 22:12 and 22:20 should be translated as "suddenly".
Indeed, strongs offers it as "(by surprise) suddenly".
Surely that is the meaning as attested to by the "thief in the night" scripture, is it not?

The philadelphian passage, Rev 3:11, could also take this reading of "suddenly"
Rev 3:11, ..., I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, in order that no one take thy crown.
as this appears to refer to the Lord's coming.

The first 2 occurrences in revelation, in the passages to the churches at Ephesus and Pergamos, are to do with discipline and, at least to my mind, not the Lord's return.
"I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick" and
"I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them"
In those cases, "quickly" is perhaps the meaning (as it is probably the meaning in Rev 11:14, too).

Here are the other NT occurences:-

 Mat 5:25, AgreeG2468 G5749 G2132 G5723 with thineG4675 adversaryG476 quicklyG5035, whilesG2193 G3755 thou artG1488 G5748 inG1722 the wayG3598 withG3326 himG846; lest at any timeG3379 the adversaryG476 deliverG3860 G5632 theeG4571 to the judgeG2923, andG2532 the judgeG2923 deliverG3860 G5632 theeG4571 to the officerG5257, andG2532 thou be castG906 G5701 intoG1519 prisonG5438.
    Mat 28:7, AndG2532 goG4198 G5679 quicklyG5035, and tellG2036 G5628 hisG846 disciplesG3101 thatG3754 he is risenG1453 G5681 fromG575 the deadG3498; andG2532, beholdG2400 G5628, he goeth beforeG4254 G5719 youG5209 intoG1519 GalileeG1056; thereG1563 shall ye seeG3700 G5695 himG846: loG2400 G5628, I have toldG2036 G5627 youG5213.
    Mat 28:8, AndG2532 they departedG1831 G5631 quicklyG5035 fromG575 the sepulchreG3419 withG3326 fearG5401 andG2532 greatG3173 joyG5479; and did runG5143 G5627 to bringG518 hisG846 disciplesG3101 wordG518 G5658.
    Mar 9:39, ButG1161 JesusG2424 saidG2036 G5627, ForbidG2967 G5720 himG846 notG3361: forG1063 there isG2076 G5748 no manG3762 whichG3739 shall doG4160 G5692 a miracleG1411 inG1909 myG3450 nameG3686, thatG2532 canG1410 G5695 lightlyG5035 speak evilG2551 G5658 of meG3165.
    Mar 16:8, AndG2532 they went outG1831 G5631 quicklyG5035, and fledG5343 G5627 fromG575 the sepulchreG3419; forG1161 theyG846 trembledG2192 G5707 G5156 andG2532 were amazedG1611: neitherG2532 said theyG2036 G5627 any thingG3762 to anyG3762 man ; forG1063 they were afraidG5399 G5711.
    Joh 11:29, As soon asG5613 sheG1565 heardG191 G5656 that , she aroseG1453 G5743 quicklyG5035, andG2532 cameG2064 G5736 untoG4314 himG846.

They are all but one translated as quickly and that is probably the correct meaning. Note, however, Mark 9:39 where it is rendered as "lightly".
I think it is fair to say, in conclusion, that the rendering should be determined by the context. Should be.

What things must needs with speed come to pass

Revelation 1:1

Things Which Must Shortly Come to Pass

This truly outstanding bible study (click the link above) explains that the common misleading translation in revelation 1:1 "soon take place"  should actually be understood as something that happens rapidly, not "soon".

The ESV:-
Rev 1:1  The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,
The AV:-
Rev 1:1  The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

The Companion Bible Revised:-
Rev 1:1  THE REVELATION of Jesus Christ, which God gave to Him, to point out to His servants what things must needs with speed come to pass; and He having sent and signified it by His angel unto His servant John:

Ok, so:-
Rev 1:19  Write therefore the things that you have seen, those that are and those that are to take place after this.

The revelation contains things that were present when John wrote , the woman who gave birth to the male child, for example, in rev 12.
It also contains things that "are to take place after this." This is where the misunderstanding creeps in. It is these things that happen at a rapid rate, as the excellent bible study link shows.

Someone will say "but the time is near"
ESV:-
Rev 1:3  Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.
AV and Companion Bible Revised have "is at hand"

CBR:-
Rev 1:3 Happy is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things which are written in it: for the time is at hand.

G1451

ἐγγύς
eggus
eng-goos'
From a primary verb ἄγχω agchō (to squeeze or throttle ; akin to the base of G43); near (literally or figuratively, of place or time): - from, at hand, near, nigh (at hand, unto), ready.

Myself, I would translate this as the time is "ready".

It is all ready and waiting to happen. When the future things happen, they shall happen very quickly.

Read the bible study.

every eye will see him

Revelation 1:7, Behold,  he is coming with the clouds, and  every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

I want  to start moving away from the standard "prophecy teacher" stuff.

So lets us look closely at his verse.

When the Lord appears in the clouds, even those who pierced Him at the cross shall see Him. I am talking about the dead from 2,000 years ago. They are not going to see Him without some kind of resurrection activity taking place at His appearing in the clouds. The dead in Christ shall arise first, then those of us still alive at His appearing. It seems, however, that we are not alone. How come the dead who pierced Him can see Him?

Am I wrong? When The Lord appears in the clouds, how long is this appearing for? Is it just all over in an hour or is it a much longer, sustained appearing encompassing the resurrection of the saints and the living believers, those who pierced Him and more?

The other meaning is, perhaps, those who pierced Him is referring to the restored jewish nation.

Once the saints and believers are raised to eternal life, how long do the tribes of the earth wail?

These are new and deep questions.

Ten Kings

rev 12 dragon has 10 horns, crowns on seven heads

rev 13 beast has 10 horns with crowns, seven heads with names of  blasphemy

rev 17 ten kings receive power for one hour.
Their power is depicted on the crowns of rev 13 beast

12, And A the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings B for one hour, together with the beast.
13, These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast.

The beast of rev 13 is therefore tied into the framework of the one hour of rev 17. It is therefore still future (only just, perhaps)

The dragon is different as he is not tied into the rev 17 time framework, his ten horns have no crowns " ten kings who have not yet received royal power". We have seen in other posts this "ten" nature.

The dragons crowns on seven heads, is this the authority of the daniel 2 statue and egypt and assyria over the millenia of time?

Does the final beast resemble all 7 of these heads in one time hour. It looks like it does. However, the power/royal authority has shifted from the historic seven heads to the final ten kings allied with the beast. A momentous power shift then from historic powers to the ten kings and the final beast. Many won't notice this as the final beast resembles historic powers, indeed, some will see their old historic faded power reinvigorated

Mid-East Beast review

This is the text of a review I did of the book "Mid-East Beast" that is sold on Amazon. It is rather disparaging but then, heh, the author is actually selling ...well, just take your time to read it and then make your opinion. This is the full intended text - the amazon review cuts me off towards the end, I had to much to say!

.......................................................................................

Beware - falling masonry

The main target of this review is Joel Richardson's attempt to twist the translation of revelation 13:7 to support his thesis of a limited mideast beast.

Here is the ESV:-Rev 13:7 Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation,

A lot of this review is rather ramshacle but if you concentrate on this first section and the EPIC section you will have gained the main point.

Update 11 jan 2014:-

The "epi"c error

Author says on page 45 of kindle edition:-
Another important factor worthy of consideration is the phrase "authority was given him over ..." The word for "over" in Greek is epi. Besides "over" it can also mean "in," "on," or "upon." As such, the English translation could just as easily read, "And authority was given him in [or among] every tribe, tongue, and nation."

Richardson, Joel (2012-06-08). Mideast Beast: The Scriptural Case for an Islamic Antichrist (p. 45). Joel Richardson. Kindle Edition.

Well, no it cannot "just as easily read" as I demonstrate below. What we have here is a case of ignoring the greek rules of grammar and that is a dangerous road with the revelation as the book itself warns about tampering with what it says.

Companion bible appendix 104 says

9.
epi governs three cases (the Genitive, Dative, and Accusative), and denotes superposition.
1.
With the Genitive it denotes upon, as proceeding or springing from, and answers to the question "Where? " (e.g. Mat 9:2; 10:27. Mar 8:4. Luk 22:30. Joh 6:21).
With the idea of locality it conveys the sense, in the presence of (e.g. Mat 28:14. Mar 13:9. Act 24:19. 1Co 6:1).
With the idea of time, it looks backward and upward, e.g. "in the days of" (Mat 1:11. Heb 1:2).
With the idea of place, it denotes dignity and power (e.g. Mat 23:2. Act 12:21. Rom 9:5. Rev 2:26).
2.
With the Dative it implies actual superposition, as one thing resting upon another, as upon a foundation or basis which may be actual (e.g. Mar 6:25, 28, 39), or moral (e.g. Mat 18:13. Mar 3:5). Both senses occur in 1Th 3:7.
Hence it is used of the moving principle or motive suggesting the purpose or object (e.g. Eph 2:16), and sometimes including the result (e.g. 2Ti 2:14).
3.
With the Accusative it implies the downward pressure on that upon which a thing rests; active motion being suggested (e.g. 2Co 3:15. 1Ti 5:5).
Hence, it denotes any extended motion downward (Mat 13:2; 18:12; 19:28; 27:45) from heaven to earth (Mar 4:20. Act 11:15. 2Co 12:9).
Compared with pros (No. xv, below), pros marks the motion, the direction to be taken, while epi (with Acc.) marks the point to be reached.
This downward pressure may be that of the mind, or feeling (e.g. Mat 25:21; 27:43. Heb 6:1. 1Pe 1:13).
For the difference between eis (No. vi, above) and epi (with the Acc.) see Rom 9:21, "one vessel unto (eis) honour", and v. 23, "riches of glory on (epi) the vessels of mercy".

end of quote.

"Epi" here in 13:7 is in the accusative:-

Quote from companion bible appendix 109,note 9,accusative:-With the Accusative it implies the downward pressure on that upon which a thing rests; active motion being suggested (e.g. 2Co 3:15. 1Ti 5:5).
Hence, it denotes any extended motion downward

It does not therefore mean "in" or "among".

"epi" is in the accusative case in revelation 13:7. I strongly encourage the reader to look up rev 13:7 on the blueletterbible website. There you can parse a word to discover it's tense. Using the ESV translation as a base, you will see that "epi" is followed by "every" and "tribe", both of which are in the accusative singular feminine and it is that tense case which governs the translation of "epi" in context. QED. See the "EPIC" section further down the page for the full piece on "epi".

Richardson is deliberately twisting the scripture to imply that the beast in revelation might have power "in" or "amongst" nations but not actually over all of them. However, the only translation possible is that the beast has power "over" the nations.

I have a name for that. You may have a more polite term for it. Whatever it is called, this means Richardson's central thesis looks a lot like the statue in Daniel Chapter 2 after the stone had hit it on its feet. "Look out below!"

While we are on topic, we are talking about power over "every....nation". The nations in Rev 2:26 are not different to those in 13:7, are they?

Rev 13:7 Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation,
Rev 2:26 The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations,
Rev 2:27 and he will rule them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father.

"Look out below!"

You can skip what follows if you wish, just head on down to the EPIC section which contains some more examples.

Update 7 jan 2014:-

Proverbs 30:6 Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

Kiel & Delitsch note this about proverbs 30:6:-
The words of God are the announcements of His holy will, measured by His wisdom; they are then to be accepted as they are, and to be recognised and obeyed. He who adds anything to them, either by an overstraining of them or by repressing them, will not escape the righteous judgment of God: God will convict him of falsifying His word (הוכיח, Psa 50:21; only here with ב of the obj.), and expose him as a liar - viz. by the dispensations which unmask the falsifier as such, and make manifest the falsehood of his doctrines as dangerous to souls and destructive to society.

I had a comment (see comments section at end of review) that was basic levity from someone called 'penname' pushing the writings of one David Reagan. Anyway, it all worked out for the best as you will see when you read the comments section.

Just in case the comments mysteriously disappear, here they are. On guard:-

RS...you might want to start all over and try again.

It's been said that intelligence can make the complex simple. You appear to do just the opposite.

I also disagree with Joel Richardson's theory of where the Antichrist will come from, but really, do you expect anyone to 'get' even one point you tried to make? And it's futile to go on and on about foreign languages if your audience has to learn those languages in order to check out your verity, or lack of.

I would suggest that you may want to read Dr. David Reagan's book debunking Joel's theory. It's refreshingly understandable. He doesn't write to impress others, he writes to communicate his ideas, and he's good at it.

RS says:
test all things, search the scriptures. Scripture does not say go buy yet another book and have someone else do the testing for you. Now doing the testing yourself will also educate you in the process. My writing may appear a little dense for some but that is because modern man has become fundamentally intellectually crippled, relying upon "peer review" etc and unwilling to exercise his/hers own individual God given critical faculties when reading the latest fad 'prophecy tome'. Just look at how many brainless complimentary reviews mideast receives, it's incredible.
Just get down and dirty and stuck in to the scripture yourself and you will have no problem with my somewhat cluttered approach. Testing is as simple as reading and stopping when you come to something that appears to be a novelty. Then check it out and if it proves to be an unfounded novelty, make a note and publish your results. Ok, it may not read as smoothly as someone who has all day, a publishing team and is merchandizing the Word of the Lord for gain but, so what. In fact, I deliberately leave a lot of my writing in a difficult to access state of affairs. This way, those with a real hunger for truth will soon break through the clouds into the sunlight. Those who are simply hoping to get some free knowledge to puff themselves up even further will find it a daunting terrain.
You suggest david reagan. Well, one more reason for working out your salvations' truths yourself. I believe Reagan is in the revived roman empire camp, is he not? I also understand that he is a product of the Hal Lindsay cloning program.
I see that reagan and salus are pals. Well, I destroyed salus' thesis about a modern day interpretation of Isaiah 17 (see my review of his revelation road) - what does salus do? He just carries on and ignores the facts I presented regarding the immediate tense on account of the participle in the word 'behold' and was essentially twisting the scripture just like richardson does. The facts I presented are testable facts, described in minute detail by the most excellent bible scholars of the last 200 years, Kiel and Delitsch.
So, if reagan is all palsy with salus, we have the blind critiquing the blind. Oh look, I can see all three of them in a horrible pit.

End of this comment
....
Well, the crowd appear somewhat bemused. Someone behind me says he is going to check his diary as he had this down as a fencing competition, he says he is sure the beauty pageant was scheduled for next week.
And, another comment contender steps into the arena. From the way he is waving his épée around (ho), this looks set to be quite some battle. For reasons that are not apparent, it appears that the contender is using an épée based on an antique design.

RS,

Don't get me wrong, I love schizophrenics, but they really shouldn't allow you to write book reviews.

As a lover of truth, and someone who actually knows Greek, allow me to step in here and share a few examples where the Greek epi is translated as "in", all of which are precisely the same usage and tense as is used Revelation 13:7.

And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and IN their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. (Matthew 4:6)

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is IN heaven. (Matthew 6:10)

But other fell INTO good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. (Matthew 13:8)

And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head IN a charger. (Matthew 14:8)

And his head was brought IN a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother. (Matthew 14:11)

And whoso shall receive one such little child IN my name receiveth me. (Matthew 18:5)

How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth INTO the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? (Matthew 18:12)

But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that IN the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. (Matthew 18:16)

And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit IN the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (Matthew 19:28)

And when he saw a fig tree IN the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. (Matthew 21:19)

Okay, I could go on and on and on... In short, please stop pretending you know what you are talking about. You obviously do not.

ESV Matthew4: 6, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, A "`He will command his angels concerning you,'and "`On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'"

Companion bible Revised
6, And saith unto Him, "If Thou be the Son of God, cast Thyself down: for it is written, He shall give His angels charge concerning Thee: and upon their hands they shall bear Thee up, lest at any time Thou dash Thy foot against a stone."

You are using the error prone KJV.

ESV Mat 6:10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
epi is translated here as on, the "in" heaven is the greek "en".
So wrong again.

ESV Mat 13:8 Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
again, epi is on

ESV
Mat 14:8 Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter."
Companion Bible Revised
8, And she, being prompted by her mother, said, "Give me here John Baptist's head upon a wooden platter."
LITV (Literaal translation)
Mat 14:8 But she being urged on by her mother, she says, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.
NET (net bible translation)
Mat 14:8 Instructed by her mother, she said, "Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.
LEB (Lexham English bible)
Mat 14:8 And coached by her mother, she said, "Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter!"

It's all "on", dude.

Now lets look at Matthew 18:5

Mat 18:5 and whoever welcomes one child such as this in my name welcomes me.

"epi" is here in the dative

Companion bible says about the dative use of epi:-
With the Dative it implies actual superposition, as one thing resting upon another, as upon a foundation or basis which may be actual (e.g.
2Ti 2:14).

You see, a foundation or basis which may be actual (e.g. Mar 6:25, 28, 39), or moral

Another example of the dative case
Mar 3:5 And looking around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.
"epi" is here the "at"

The "epi" in revelation 13:7 is in the accusative., not the dative.

You have to get things right and study to be approved.

Okay, I could go on and on and on... touché

End of this comment.

...

What happened there? The crowd are booing, there could be a few people wanting their money back. It appears the contender became completely disorientated after the early KJV error thrust point was scored. After that, it was , frankly, embarrassing to watch. The contender left the arena pointless.

END of all COMMENTS.

....................................................

Update:-05 jan 2014. I did buy the book in the end but it's not worth the asking price. It is based on fundamental errors where the author just hacks his way through the Word of God in that he either ignores the grammar (that I demonstrate below) so that his thesis holds up or he is unaware of the grammar (which is worse?), all the while parading his work as some kind of prophecy enlightenment. I find it difficult to believe that someone would write these errors even on a free blog but to then sell such material - well, it staggers me. I must confess that I have stopped reading the book now so this review is of the errors that appear in the first 60 pages or so. It's difficult to carry on reading when you know where the author is coming from and you know it's wrong. (This review may get book size by the time I actually summon the will to continue reading the drivel). In the case of the "epi"c error detailed in this review, what we have here is an outright lie - there is only one source of lies about the Word of God and that is the Devil. So now you know what you are dealing with in this book - it is the Devil's usual formula, state something that sounds very similar to what God has said, gain the confidence of the hearer, then introduce the lie (ask Eve). "Study to be approved" we are admonished by scripture. I have studied, even though it be but cursory in my own opinion. One reviewer says " an eye opener" etc when reviewing this book - that's what the serpent said to Eve!

Search the Scripture. Test all things. This book fails the test "epi"cally! (see below).

Please take the time to read my review. I hope you find it edifying. It can be a little dry in places but it is based on what the Word of God ACTUALLY says. If you like what you are reading, you can always try my own blog ( alphaomega37 blogger blogspot on a google search ) for real, in depth, totally original material on the book of Daniel - it's free!

...................

Original review starts here:-

I am probably going to buy this but I am concerned from the preview that the book does not recognize that Luke 21:20-24 is about Titus in A.D 70. This scripture is used in the book to support an event still to come. Now, you have to be very careful when reading the temple discourse versus the olivet discourses in Matthew and Mark. They are not the same. They have a different target audience

Look at this:-

The past-
Luk 21:24 They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive among all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

The future-
Luk 21:25 "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves,

A gap of over 2000 years between verses! The Lord does this elsewhere in the gospels when he opens the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He reads up to the point where the day of the Lord's vengeance is mentioned and stops there, not mentioning it or going any further. A gap of at least 2000 years in mid sentence sanctioned by the Lord Himself!

So, I think there may well be some rather heavy handed treatment of scripture in this book mixed with some very good material too. A pity, it puts me off purchasing it.

Luke does not mention the abomination of desolation. His target audience is the gentiles.
Matthew does mention it. This was directed to the Lord's Jewish apostles in a private discourse. The target audience is, I believe, those in Jerusalem at the time of the end.

EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC

Ok, let's move on to:-

Here are some more examples, along with 13:7, of "epi" with the accusative :-

Luk 9:1 And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases,

Rev 6:8 And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth.

Rev 13:7 Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation,

Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates.

"epi is translated as "over" 3 times and once as "to", as in "the right to". It is all about unfettered rights and power over the subject noun. No "ins or "amongs" here.

Every translation uses "over" for "epi" in rev 13:7 and there is no hint anywhere of another possible meaning to be found except in this book to support the author's argument. hmmmm

Here is strongs:-
G1909
ἐπί
epi
ep-ee'
A primary preposition properly meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution [with the genitive case], that is, over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.: - about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, [where-]) fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-) on (behalf of) over, (by, for) the space of, through (-out), (un-) to (-ward), with. In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at, upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).

Se we see that Richardson's attempt to play down the authority of the beast is just wrong. His attempt to suggest the beast's authority might be limited to be just power "in" or "among" the nations is not what the scripture says.

Now consider this:-

Rev 2:26 The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations,
Rev 2:27 and he will rule them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father.

How many nations. Is it just a few or is it all. Likewise, in revelation 13:7, it must logically be ALL nations that the beast has authority over. To the one who conquers , the Lord is not going to give authority over just a few select middle eastern nations, is He? When He rules with a rod of iron, will that just be the middle east only?

Selah

Rev22:18, ... I testify to every one that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any one shall add unto them, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Rev22:19, And if any one shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the tree of life, and out of the holy city, ... which are written in this book.

..............................................................................

More problems

The author makes a big deal out of the word "crush" in daniel 2;40.
ok, so try another translation such as the companion bible

39, And after thee shall stand up another kingdom [Medo- Persia] inferior to thee [as silver is inferior to gold], and another third kingdom of brass [again inferior], which shall bear rule over all the earth.
40, And the fourth kingdom [Rome] shall be hard as iron: forasmuch as iron beateth small and crusheth all things: and as iron that bringeth to ruin all these, shall it beat small and bring to ruin.

Rome certainly did "beat small" and "bring to ruin". . Remember 'divide and conquer', one of Caesar's maxims ? However, the extremities of the empire, like the feet and toes being the extremities of the statue, were a mixture of iron and clay. Thus we see some authority of Rome in persia but not complete.

The fourth power, then, is Rome.

The fifth power is Rome and Islam. Iron AND Clay. Remember, the crusaders (rome, iron) held Jerusalem for part of this fifth power's tenure.

41, And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes [the fifth power], part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the hardness of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with muddy clay.
42, And as the toes of the feet were some of them of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be at the end strong, and part of it shall be fragile, and easily broken.
43, And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with muddy clay, the toes shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron mingleth not with clay.
44, And in the days of these kings represented by the ten toes [That is the moment of the great stone, and the coming of Messiah] shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall beat small in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand to the ages.

What the author fails to recognize is that the statue of daniel chapter 2 is all about the powers having authority over Jerusalem, the city of the Great King. In particular, the temple mount.

In support,Consider Daniel 2:41-43
41, And whereas thou sawestH2370 H8754 the feetH7271 and toesH677, partH4481 of pottersH6353' clayH2635, and partH4481 of ironH6523, the kingdomH4437 shall beH1934 H8748 dividedH6386 H8752; butH4481 there shall beH1934 H8748 in it ofH4481 the strengthH5326 of the ironH6523, forasmuch asH3606 H6903 thou sawestH2370 H8754 the ironH6523 mixedH6151 H8743 with miryH2917 clayH2635.
42, And as the toesH677 of the feetH7271 were partH4481 of ironH6523, and partH4481 of clayH2635, so the kingdomH4437 shall beH1934 H8748 partlyH4481 H7118 strongH8624, and partlyH4481 H7118 brokenH8406 H8750.
43, And whereasH1768 thou sawestH2370 H8754 ironH6523 mixedH6151 H8743 with miryH2917 clayH2635, they shall mingle themselvesH1934 H8748 H6151 H8723 with the seedH2234 of menH606: but they shallH1934 H8748 notH3809 cleaveH1693 H8751 oneH1836 toH5974 anotherH1836, evenH1888 as ironH6523 is notH3809 mixedH6151 H8723 with clayH2635.

Look at the word for "mixed" (in 41 and 43)

ערב
‛ărab
ar-ab'
(Chaldee); corresponding to H6148; to commingle: - mingle (self), mix.

The word for mixed is ARAB!!!

Point of interest here:- the "people of the prince to come" in Daniel chapter 9 are NOT Romans but Arabs! Under Titus, the army that destroyed the temple was made up of syrian/arab conscripts. Their hatred towards the temple was so great that Titus tried to restrain their intensity - to no avail.
Note also that the lateinos, ie the etruscans, came from Resen, part of the Nineveh complex of cities. So the italian essence is not Japhetic (european) but closely tied to Syria. That explains a lot about Roman Catholicism.

Then there is this problem of consistency:-

39, And after thee shall stand up another kingdom [Medo- Persia] inferior to thee [as silver is inferior to gold], and another third kingdom of brass [again inferior], which shall bear rule over all the earth.

According to the author, this does not actually mean "all the earth", just what was relevant to the prophecy.

However, in the very next verse

40, And the fourth kingdom [Rome] shall be hard as iron: forasmuch as iron beateth small and crusheth all things: and as iron that bringeth to ruin all these, shall it beat small and bring to ruin.

the author asserts that this refers to every last town and outpost of the greeks, medo-persians and babylonians.

Cake and eat it? What is the difference between "all the earth" and "all things".

You can't have it both ways.

In one instance," all the earth" is a limited area.
In the next, "all things" is again an area but it is defined by the author's point of view. It is just whatever suits selling books on amazon.
Just big enough to exclude the roman empire but small enough to be the Islamic caliphate. Really!

Anyway, the feet of iron and clay explain the lack of complete dominion in the outermost extremes of the roman empire.

Ok, lets add some thoughts from kiel and delitsch

Finally, the expressions in Dan 7:7, Dan 7:19 are not analogous to those before us. The words in question cannot indeed be so understood as if the fourth kingdom would find the three previous kingdoms existing together, and would dash them one against another; for, according to the text, the first kingdom is destroyed by the second, and the second by the third; but the materials of the first two kingdoms were comprehended in the third. "The elements out of which the Babylonian world-kingdom was constituted, the countries, people, and civilisation comprehended in it, as its external form, would be destroyed by the Medo-Persia kingdom, and carried forward with it, so as to be constituted into a new external form. Such, too, was the relation between the Medo-Persian and the Macedonian world-kingdom, that the latter assumed the elements and component parts not only of the Medo-Persian, but also therewith at the same time of the Babylonian kingdom" (Klief.). In such a way shall the fourth world-kingdom crush "all these" past kingdoms as iron, i.e., will not assume the nations and civilisations comprehended in the earlier world-kingdoms as organized formations, but will destroy and break them to atoms with iron strength. Yet will this world-kingdom not throughout possess and manifest the iron hardness. Only the legs of the image are of iron (Dan 2:41), but the feet and toes which grow out of the legs are partly of clay and partly of iron.
Regarding מנהון, see under Dan 2:33. חסף means clay, a piece of clay, then an earthly vessel, 2Sa 5:20. פּחר in the Targums means potter, also potter's earth, potsherds. The פּחר דּי serves to strengthen the חסף, as in the following the addition of טינא, clay, in order the more to heighten the idea of brittleness. This twofold material denotes that it will be a divided or severed kingdom, not because it separates into several (two to ten) kingdoms, for this is denoted by the duality of the feet and by the number of the toes of the feet, but inwardly divided; for פּלג always in Hebr., and often in Chald., signifies the unnatural or violent division arising from inner disharmony or discord; cf. Gen 10:25; Psa 55:10; Job 38:25; and Levy, chald. Worterb. s. v. Notwithstanding this inner division, there will yet be in it the firmness of iron. נצבּא, firmness, related to יצב, Pa. to make fast, but in Chald. generally plantatio, properly a slip, a plant.

Summing up then:-
Thinking along these lines, the core (legs) of the roman empire was like unto iron but the extremities, the feet and the toes , were iron and clay. This explains the lack of absolute iron roman rule in the extremities like persia, both in time and space, whereby persia was ruled both by Rome and the Arabs according to area. Rome was weakened by the Islamic clay but Rome never went away. From Charlemagne to the Crusades to Napoleaon to Two world wars to the British Mandate for Palestine to the European Union, the Iron still exists.
With this thought in mind, I propose what I have always thought - that the iron stands for rome and the clay for the arabs. SOOOO Simple.

The author of Mideast beastie gets daniel 2:40 twisted
40, And the fourth kingdom [Rome] shall be hard as iron: forasmuch as iron beateth small and crusheth all things: and as iron that bringeth to ruin all these, shall it beat small and bring to ruin.

It is the nature of iron to crush "forasmuch as iron beateth small and crusheth all things".
How this worked out in practice was " shall it beat small and bring to ruin".
A subtle but profound difference between the nature of iron and how it was actually used.

Again
40, And the fourthH7244 kingdomH4437 shall beH1934 H8748 strongH8624 as ironH6523: forasmuch as ironH6523 breaketh in piecesH1855 H8683 and subduethH2827 H8751 allH3606 things : and asH6903 ironH6523 that breakethH7490 H8750 allH3606 theseH459, shall it break in piecesH1855 H8681 and bruiseH7490 H8748.

subduethH2827 means crush
חשׁל
chăshal
khash-al'
(Chaldee) a root corresponding to H2826; to weaken, that is, crush: - subdue.

It is only mentioned once in verse 40 and refers to the NATURE of iron, not to the actual actions of Rome.

The actual actions of Rome are
1.breakethH7490 / bruiseH7490
breaking
רעע
re‛a‛
reh-ah'
(Chaldee); corresponding to H7489: - break, bruise.

2. break in piecesH1855
Crumbling/ breaking to pieces
דּקק
deqaq
dek-ak'
(Chaldee); corresponding to H1854; to crumble or (transitively) crush: - break to pieces.

break in piecesH1855/deqaq here is in the intransitive, hence - crumble.

Rome broke everything it touched but it didn't necessarily completely crush everything it touched.

Something that is broken or broken to pieces is not the same as something completely crushed.

2:40 says therefore that Rome broke/crumbled things and Broke/bruised things

"and asH6903 ironH6523 that breakethH7490 H8750 allH3606 theseH459, shall it break in piecesH1855 H8681 and bruiseH7490 H8748."

So, once again, the author of mideast beastie has not done his homework.

AS I stated at the beginning, you could try my blog ( alphaomega37 blogger blogspot on a google search ) for some real eye opening original material on the book of Daniel and , of course, it's free as well!
